Introduce yourself!
My name is Clarissa and I am UGC Creator. I am a fitness/health enthusiast, and an activewear lover, so I most enjoy creating content related to this niche. I've been an on-camera personality for 10 years and have always felt quite comfortable talking to a lens. I love all things content creation. From concepting a video, to producing it, to gaging the performance of the video and interacting with my followers, I feel quite immersed into the world.
Why did you become a creator?
I always had a love for content creation, and started posting to YouTube back in 2011. I produced long form content for years and LOVED it, but when TikTok came around, my life forever changed. I started posting my OOTD videos before my shifts at lululemon, which gained good traction and was motivating for me to continue posting to the platform. I loved talking about one of my favorite brands with my followers, as well as coming up with other ideas for my page. I was working a full time-job as a Social Media Manager, but continued to post short-form content to my TikTok page. The more brands I took on, the more I realized I wanted to take it full-time. I worked hard to build up a roster of clients to create continuous content for so I could leave my full-time job as a Social Media Manager. My heart was in video creation. The first day of officially becoming a full-time Content Creator was a feeling I'll never forget. To me, this is the coolest job in the world, and I never would have thought to be doing this as my career.
What is your favourite part about being a creator?
I get to show my personality on camera and have fun with many different video concepts.
What does a typical content day look like for you?
I try to keep my concepting days (days I flush out my ideas) separate from my filming days, as this the most efficient way for me to work. So on a concepting day, I will write out a video concept along with the caption and hashtags and send it off for the brand's approval. On a filming day, I put on a full face of makeup and do my hair so I'm camera ready and can batch shoot brands' content.
Do you have any advice/pointers for new creators?
Try creating all types of content. Don't be attached to any one style of video because you never know what will take off and what your audience enjoys seeing from you. I see SO many up and coming creators post product-shot style videos, and to be honest, these are boring. You don't see any faces or personality. Anyone can grab a product and record it on a product spinner or against a nice backdrop, but that's not what most brands want (in my opinion). In my experience, brands select creators based on a certain skill they're good at or the personality they bring to the camera.
Anything else you'd like to share about your creator journey to date?
There will be months that you may have fewer clients (less income) than others, and that's okay! Don't get discouraged, and give up. Make sure to put aside a little extra $$ on the higher income months to help you get through the lower income months. Keep pushing and reaching out to brands, as you never know which paths will cross or who you may come across that needs content.
