Introduce yourself!
Hey there! My name is Eric Esma and I'm a content creator based out of Ottawa, Canada! I specialize in both the fashion lifestyle and comedy/skits niche. I've been content creating ever since high school back in the tumblr days but just these past couple of years have I really taken it serious and pursued it as a full time career.
Why did you become a creator?
I became a creator because I like to create, share and inspire. It started off back in the Tumblr days where I would just "repost" and share photos/videos that I thought were cool on the internet. It was content I liked and slowly realized that people started taking interest into my "mind" and the content I was posting. It hit me when one of my homies who was the farthest from social media, kept up with my blog without me even knowing.
Now these days when it comes to being a creator, I aim to inspire and entertain when it comes to creating content. I hope that with my fashion outfits, people watching are able to take notes and try clothes that aren't part of their usual closet and opt for something out of their comfort zone.
What is your favourite part about being a creator?
My favourite part about being a creator is that I get to live my life. When it comes to my fashion content, I get to play dress-up for a living. When I do food reviews or skits, I get to eat and act silly as part of my "job". It amazes me that people take an interest in my life. I never would have thought I would get to the position that I am in today.
What does a typical content day look like for you?
A typical content day can honestly vary depending on what I'm creating. I've had days where I've had to wake up a 3am in the morning to get a photo for sunrise and there were times where I had to wait till 3am at night to wait for empty streets to take a photo.
There is some obvious structure when it comes to content creating such as editing, answering emails and meeting with clients. However, when it comes to what I'm going to film that day, where I'm going to film it and which of my friends/colleagues are going to be joining me on my adventure is always different and that's one of the things I love about being a content creator is that everyday is a new adventure.
Do you have any advice/pointers for new creators?
Some advice pointers for new creators:
JUST POST! Don't be afraid of what your friends/family might think. If they don't want to consume your content or don't like what you're posting then they are not the audience you create content for. When creating content you need to think of only two people: yourself and the person on the other side you want to consume the content. Don't worry about anyone else that will bring you down.
MAKE SURE TO HAVE FUN! My golden rule when it comes to creating content is: if i'm not having fun doing it, I'm not going to do it. I understand sometimes creating content gets tough and you hit roadblocks but the pros should always outweigh the cons when it comes to creating content.
Anything else you'd like to share about your creator journey to date?
Growing up, I used to be very insecure about the gap in my teeth. I hated the way it looked, wanting to get it fixed a reason and also tried to hide my teeth when smiling. However, one day I made this TikTok and it went VIRAL gaining over 17M views on TikTok. Obviously, I had some people commenting on my gap teeth in a negative way but I had WAAAAY more positive comments saying how much they loved it. Those comments and those TikToks have boosted my self confidence and don't shy me away from ever showing off my smile. As much as my career has grown being a content creator, my self-confidence and self-love has grown alongside it as well.
