Introduce yourself!

Hey! I'm Marina, a 27 year old full time content creator living in Toronto!

Why did you become a creator?

I've always been heavily into content creation - when I was young, I used to create videos with my parent's old video camera and record onto VHS tapes all the time! Growing up I've always been the first to jump on any social media. With the rise of TikTok, I took my interest in content creation more seriously and grew a large audience for myself, learning what content works in resonating with an audience. Since 2020, I've been able to make it my full time passion.

What is your favourite part about being a creator?

Being my own director. I constantly come up with new ideas and have learned so much in terms of editing/speaking to camera skills/filming styles in such a rapid timeframe. I love constantly evolving.

What does a typical content day look like for you?

I film from the moment I wake up to the moment I get into bed... and then I edit on my iPad in bed! I do a ton of planning in terms of what content I want to create that day, down to shot lists and script points. You should see my screen time report on my phone :') It's so much fun though. Everything I do in a day can be used as content for projects and I am always sure to capture that.

Do you have any advice/pointers for new creators?

Your content should be a reflection of you. If you try to emulate other creators, it might work at first but you'll get burnt out quickly. I promise that if you love the content you make, it'll come through as well!

Marina's Brkaway Portfolio

Anything else you'd like to share about your creator journey to date?

I find that it's really easy to feel like you're not 'good enough' in this sector when you compare yourself to other creators. What I've learned is that your content is unique, and that's what you need to own. Once you do that, you let go of that external pressure and just focus on being the best you can be. This has helped me tremendously.
